Jackson State Versus Memphis Recap

Thursday afternoon, it became known that projected top pick in next year’s NBA Draft James Wiseman will no longer be apart of the Memphis Tigers basketball program. Wiseman posted a detailed message on his Instagram page thanking everyone involved in his arrival at the University of Memphis.

Overall this hurts college basketball, but for the Memphis Tigers basketball program as a whole, they continue to excel without the presence of James Wiseman. After coming off an impressive 51-47 over interstate rival Tennessee, the Tigers returned to the FedEx Forum to take on Jackson State. Power forward, Precious Achiuwa is becoming the focal point of this ball club. He led the team with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Memphis would go on to win 77-49.

As we have seen in previous games, there were periods where the team struggled to score points against their opponents. But the team would walk away with the victory once again. Memphis improves its record to 11-1 in the AAC and tied with Wichita State for the first place in the conference. There were also significant contributions from players such as Alex Lomax, Tyler Harris, and D.J. Jeffries.

The team now goes into Christmas break, and when they return, they face the University of New Orleans along with their conference opponents. Tigers head coach seemed very optimistic in regards to what the team can accomplish without star center James Wiseman. Check out what he had to say at the team’s postgame press conference against Jackson State.

When asked about the team moving on from James Wiseman, Hardaway jokingly stated that “you can’t just grab the Men & Black Pen and zap yourself.” The organization may be going through the process of competing with James Wiseman, but going forward, they remain a legitimate national title contender. This is your Jackson State versus Memphis recap. They return to the court on the 28th of December to take on the University of New Orleans Privateers.
